Staff Highlight: Joseph

Dec 8, 2023

Introducing Joseph, our Senior Project Officer. We recently sat down with him to understand his position and aspirations for fostering development through innovative infrastructure in Rwanda.

Can you tell us about your role at Kinvest?

As the Senior Project Officer, I oversee the construction of Kinvest Market Hubs and solar-powered boreholes. Additionally, I manage the maintenance of utilities across all hubs. Most of my time is spent on-site in Nyagatare, supervising construction projects and collaborating with local workers.

What drives your passion for engineering and community development?

I was drawn to engineering because of its potential to positively impact local communities in Rwanda. My role allows me to bring creativity and modern infrastructure to isolated areas. Whether designing structures or water supply projects, I enjoy implementing innovative ideas.

Can you highlight a significant project you’ve undertaken at Kinvest?

One project I’m particularly proud of is completing the Gatebe Market Hub, catering to over 200 entrepreneurs and generating employment for local construction workers. We also installed a solar-powered borehole to provide sustainable water access in the Gatebe community.

What challenges do you face in your role, and how do you overcome them?

Transportation difficulties, especially during the rainy season, pose a significant challenge in Nyagatare. Many communities we serve are isolated from main roads. To address this, we’ve utilized Kinvest’s Tujyane vehicle to transport construction materials to our sites.

How has your experience at Kinvest contributed to your professional growth?

Working at Kinvest has significantly enhanced my skills in project management and communication. Kinvest’s value of optimism also resonates with me, as having a positive outlook motivates me to overcome challenges and implement creative solutions.
