How Solar Power Is Giving Women 2 Extra Hours a Day!

Aug 20, 2025

At Kinvest Impact Foundation, we use solar-powered boreholes connected to a piped network, delivering clean water directly to the heart of communities. This means women and children no longer walk long distances to fetch water saving up to two hours a day. Time once spent on the road is now spent on earning income, attending school, resting, or simply being with family.

In rural communities, clean water isn’t just a convenience, it’s changing. We believe every family deserves safe, affordable, and reliable water close to home.

Through our growing water initiative, we’ve established seven water points with an eighth on the way serving thousands of people year-round in Nyagatare. These systems use wells that are five times more efficient and are connected through a piped network that brings clean water directly to the communities.

Infrastructure alone doesn’t change lives, people do. That’s why our seven dedicated water operators are at the center of this work. They aren’t just maintaining systems; they’re ensuring that families can drink safely, that children don’t have to miss school fetching water far from their homes, and that women have more time to focus on work and spend with their families.

Our next phase involves drilling more boreholes, expanding solar-powered pump systems, and building additional water distribution points so that every household and every Rwandan child can access clean water close to home.
