Voices of Gasima Water Point

Apr 28, 2025

In Gasima, a community in Eastern Rwanda, accessing clean water was once a daily struggle. Residents had to walk long distances, spending hours just to collect it. With the arrival of Kinvest’s water point, things have transformed. Gerver, Elie, Diane, and Sarah shared how this change has made a big difference in stimulating their businesses and livelihoods.

“Before the water point, I walked almost an hour to fetch water in jerrycans just to wash one or two motorcycles. I couldn’t work much, and sometimes I lost customers. Now, the water is just a few steps away. I can wash more bikes in a day, make more money, and never turn anyone away,” Gerver, a motorcycle cleaner, shared.

Elie, a brick maker, explained “In the past, I carried water from far, and it took most of my energy before I could even start working. I couldn’t make enough bricks to meet demand. Now, the water point is close. I work faster, produce more bricks, and make enough to feed my kids.”

Diane, a high school student, shared that “Before the water point, I had to wake up early and help my mother fetch water from far. I would arrive at school tired and sometimes late. Now, we have water nearby, and I get ready calmly. I go to school clean, on time, and focused.”
